Fundamental Duties

The following are the main features of Fundamental duties:

  • Fundamental duties are based on the Swaran Singh committee, Some recommendations that were not included in FDs are listed below:
    • Duty to pay tax
    • Punishment in case of violation of FDs
  • In 42nd CAA in 1976, fundamental duties (article 51-A) were added in part 4-A of the Indian constitution.
  • It was borrowed from the USSR constitution (now Russia).

The following are the 11 fundamental duties:

  1. Duty to respect National flag, the national anthem, respect the idea mentioned in the Indian constitution.
  2. Follow the Nobel ideas of national freedom struggle
  3. To uphold and protect the Sovereignty, integrity, and unity of India
  4. Defend the county when called upon
  5. Promote harmony and brotherhood
  6. To preserve the rich heritage of our common composite
  7. To protect and improve the natural environment like forests, rivers, etc
  8. To develop the scientific temper, humanism
  9. to safeguard the public property
  10. To strive toward excellence in individual and collective form
  11. To provide educational opportunities to the child between six and fourteen age.( It was added through 86th CAA 2002)
