Rejuvenated landforms are those landforms in which the process of the outgoing erosion cycle is accelerated suddenly. The rejuvenation of landforms occurs either by the vertical rise of the land or by the fall of the sea level.
- The rising of the land or the fall of the sea level can happen suddenly or it can also happen gradually.
- Endogenous forces or tectonic uplift increase the relief of landforms and the rise of land.
- Global cooling leads to a fall in sea level.
- Global warming also causes the rejuvenation of landforms in high latitudes as the melting of ice reduces surface pressure, resulting in vertical elevation of landforms and slope of landforms.
- For example, Damodar Valley in Jharkhand is an example of a rejuvenated landform.
The following landforms or landforms are in the process of rejuvenation-
- Newfoundland, the eastern part of Canada; is rising about 0.8 mm per year.
- The Scandinavian country is rising about 7 mm per year.
- Alaska is rising about 4 cm per year.
- The main reason for the uplift of the above landmass is the westward shift of the North America plate and the eastward movement of the Pacific Ocean plate.
- Due to global warming, ice from Alaska is melting and surface pressure is decreasing, so Alaska is rising.
- The Himalayan region is also rising but the rate of uplift is different from place to place. The highest elevation of the Himalayas is recorded near Nanga Parbat at 10 mm per year.
Walter Penk in his erosional cycle also asserted that the erosional cycle of landforms does not stop after Pediplain formation, it can be started after the rejuvenation of landforms or the erosional cycle can be interrupted by the rejuvenation of landform. Penck's concept of the polycyclic erosion cycle is very much true.
