Integrity plays an important role in ensuring that civil servants act in the best interest of the public and uphold the principle of ethical and good governance.
The following are some roles of integrity in civil services;
Ethical governance; Integrity ensures the civil servants to follow and uphold ethical standard all the time, and it ensure that government policies and actions align with the principle of justice, fairness, and transparency. Lack of integrity can lead to corruption, abuse of power, and erosion of public trust.
Building trust; Integrity is necessary for building and maintaining trust with the public. Public trust is crucial for the effective functioning of civil services. Integral people are most trustworthy to society and institutions.
Prevention of corruption; Integrity in civil servants helps in maintaining accountability and transparency in their function, therefore it helps in preventing corruption.
Ensure objectivity and impartiality; Integrity ensures that public officials make decisions based on merits and the best interest of the public rather than personal gains. Integrity helps private and public professional work efficiency.
