Land Records are maintained by the land Resource Department in India. Only 93 % of land record data is available as:
- Some lands are illegally occupied by Pakistan and China.
- No data is available from North-Eastern states except Assam.
As per land record, the following is lad use pattern in India.
- Forest Land
- Land does not use for cultivation
- Barren and Wasteland
- Permanent Pasture and Grazing
- Culturable Waste-Land
- Current Fallow land
- Other than current fallow land
- Net cultivated areas
Barren and Wasteland includes:
- Wasteland 130 million square kilometers in India;
- 56 % water eroded area.
- 28 % of Forest degraded areas
- 6 % saline and alkaline
- 10 % winds eroded areas.
Permanent Pasture and Grazing:
- Own by Panchayat
- Common property resources
Culturable Waste-Land:
- More than 5 years
- Jhum cultivation
Current Fallow land:
- Current fallow; less than 1 year
Other than Current Fallow land:
- Other than current fallow; 1 to 5 years
Net sown areas:
- Those land that used to grow at least one crop in a year included in Net Sown Area.
