Energy resources are essential for generating power that is used in agriculture, industry, transport, and other economic sectors.
There are two types of energy resources:
- Conventional Sources or Non-renewable Energy Resources
- Non-Convention sources of energy or Renewable energy sources
Conventional Sources or Non-renewable Sources of energy:
The energy resources have limited stock on earth and it takes a much longer time to replenish. Indiscriminate use of convection energy can cause the exhaustion of resources.
The following are the convection sources of energy resources:
- Fossil fuel:
- Coal
- Natural Gas
- Petroleum; is also called Hydrocarbon energy
- Nuclear Minerals
The main characteristics of fossil fuels and conventional sources of energy:
- Fossil fuels are organic origin minerals that are formed from remains of plants and animals buried under the earth for a million years.
- With immense heat and pressure, it got converted to fossil fuels.
- The formation of Fossil fuels started in the Carboniferous period[400-600 million years old]
- These are found in sedimentary rocks.
- Not evenly distributed Over the space
- It takes millions of years of time to replenish.
- These are not eco-friendly, it harms the ecosystem badly.
Non-convention sources or renewable energy sources:
The energy sources which are not exhaustible get renewed easily and do take not much time.
The following are the renewable energy sources:
- Solar energy
- Wind energy
- Tidal and wave energy
- Biogas
- Hydel power
The following are the characteristics of renewable and non convection sources of energy:
- These are the sustainable energy sources
- It is environmentally friendly
- These are more equally distributed than non-conventional sources
- Cheaper energy sources after the initial cost
