What is the agro-based Industry?
- Agro-based industry or agro-processing Industry uses agricultural products ( plants or animals) as raw material for making finished goods for the rural and urban markets.
The following are types of agro-based industries:
- Food processing industry such as packed food, sugar, pickle, fruits juice
- India stands 2nd in the production of sugar and first in the production of Gur in the world.
- Dairy processing industries
- Leather industries
- Beverages include tea, coffee, cocoa
- Spices, Vegetable oil processing
- Textiles industries are based on cotton, jute, and silk.
- Sugar, cotton textile, and jute textiles are the largest agro-based industries in India.
- In cotton textiles, India stands second in spinning after China.
- In the jute textile, India stands first in raw jute production and second in jute export after Banglades
- Natural Rubber industry
