What is the agro-based Industry?

  •  Agro-based industry or agro-processing Industry uses agricultural products ( plants or animals) as raw material for making finished goods for the rural and urban markets.

The following are types of agro-based industries:

  • Food processing industry such as packed food, sugar, pickle, fruits juice
    • India stands 2nd in the production of sugar and first in the production of Gur in the world.
  • Dairy processing industries
  • Leather industries
  • Beverages include tea, coffee, cocoa
  • Spices, Vegetable oil processing
  • Textiles industries are based on cotton, jute, and silk.
    • Sugar, cotton textile, and jute textiles are the largest agro-based industries in India.
    • In cotton textiles, India stands second in spinning after China.
    • In the jute textile, India stands first in raw jute production and second in jute export after Banglades
  • Natural Rubber industry
