What do you understand by intrusive forms

Question:

What do you understand by intrusive forms? Briefly describe various intrusive forms.

Answer:

Intrusive forms are one type of volcanic landform. In the volcanic eruption, molten magma from the asthenosphere came upon the crust then it is called lava. The released lava may be cooled either on reaching the surface or inside the crust. The lava that cools within the earth's crust before reaching the earth's surface cooled in different forms, these forms are called intrusive forms.

These are the different intrusive forms:

  • Batholiths
  • Lacoliths
  • Sills
  • Dykes

Batholiths:

  • The magma, that cools in a deeper depth of crust in the form of large domes. Batholiths appear on earth only after the denudation process.

Lacoliths:

  • The magma, that cools inside the crust in form of a large dome with a level base and is connected by a pipe-like structure.

Sheets and Sills:

  • The magma, that cools in a horizontal line is called sheets or sills based on the thickness of the materials. The thicker one is called sills while the thinner one is called sheets.

Dykes:

  • When the magma is cooled in the wall-like structure, such a structure is called dykes.
