Exogenic geomorphic processes derive their ultimate energy from the sun’s heat

 Question.

Exogenic geomorphic processes derive their ultimate energy from the sun’s heat. Explain.

Answer:

Exogenic forces are external forces that are originated in the atmosphere. The prime job of exogenic forces is to wearing down relief variation of the surface of the earth.

The following are the major exogenic geomorphic process:

  • Weathering[ It may be mechanical, chemical, or biological]
  • Erosion and transportation.
  • Mass Movement is caused by gravitational forces.

The energy source of mass movement is tectonic forces. Tectonic forces created the gradients on the earth's surface. Gravitational force( one of the exogenic forces) act upon the sloping surface and produce movement on the materials. Deformation of materials happens by pushing and pulling.

The energy source of weathering, erosion, and transportation process is the Sun.  The distribution of Insulation is not the same in all latitudes; as result, it causes the pressure and temperature difference in the atmosphere; as a result,

  • It causes precipitation that enhances the chemical, biological weathering, and erosion activities.
  • It creates temperature difference that enhances the weathering activities.
  • Sea waves, ices, winds also derive energy from the sun and work on the different denudation processes.

From the above logic, we can say that if there was no Sun, there would not have been a difference in temperature and pressure in our atmosphere, nor rain and winds, nor would there have been exogenous geomorphic processes like weathering, erosion, and transport process.
