Chipko Movement in Rajasthan ( 1731):
Bishnoies community lives in the middle of the Rajasthan Desert. In 1731, Jodhpur's King ordered to cut trees to build the new palace. Ministers came to the areas of the Bishnoi community for wood. Villagers protested against the cutting tree and they hugged the tree to prevent them from being cut down. Approx. 363 Bishnoies lost their life in protecting the tree.
Chipko Movement in Uttrakhand(1973):
Early 1973, a villager in Uttrakhand was protesting against the practice of commercial logging; they used to protest by hugging the trees to prevent them from being cut down. It was started from 3 to 4 villages in Uttrakhand but later it was spread to other parts of Uttarakhand. This movement was known as the Chipko movement.
