Answer.

Agro-based industries are those industries that take raw materials from agriculture. The following are agro-based industries in India.

  • Textile Industry
  • Sugar Industry
  • Dairy Industry
  • Food Processing Industry
  • Tea and Coffee Industry
  • Leather Industry

Like other manufacturing industries, agro-based industries are also dependent on many location factors.

The following are some governing factors of agro-based industries:

  • The proximity of raw materials
    • The sugar and textile industries are highly dependent on the availability of raw materials. For example, most jute industries are located near jute producing region in West Bengal. Sugar industries are also located near the sugar-producing areas in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Maharashtra.
  • Favorable Climate:
    • The preferable location for cotton textile industries is the humid climatic region.
  • Water Availability:
    • Jute textile industries need water for the processing which is why it is located on the bank of the Hugli river.
  • Reliable supply of Electricity
  • Cheap Labour
  • Market and port accessibility
