About IPCC:
- Full Name: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
- Foundation: 1988
- It is the body of the United nation and part of the United Nations Environment Program.
- Aim:
- Provide regular scientific assessment on climate change to United Nations for Policymaking.
IPCC Report 2021:
- 40 % decrease in Arctic sea ice since 1979.
- There will be a rise of 7 % of intensified extreme weather such as cyclones, an increase in the heatwave, shorter cold season on every one-degree rise of global temperature.
- Carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is the highest in 2 million years.
- The last four decades have been a successively warmer decade.
- Sea level and global surface temperature are rising constantly.
- if we reduce global emissions to net-zero by 2040 then there will be a 2/3rd chance to reach 1.5 degrees centigrade.
IPCC 2021 report is key for discussion in the 26th Conference of Party Meeting( CoP) that will be organized in Glasgow, UK.
