Question.
Why is the difference between the duration of day and night hardly felt at Kanyakumari but not so in Kashmir?
( Chapter - 1 India-Size and Location, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )
Answer.
The duration of the day and night difference get decreases when we move toward the equator from the poles ( zero degrees latitude) and the duration of the day and night difference get increases when we go away from the equator to the poles ( 90 degrees latitude).
Most of the year, there are 12 hours of day and night at the equator. The reason for the same is that mid-day sun rays make 90 degrees angles for a larger duration of the year at the equator.
Kanyakumari (8°4'N ) is very close to the equator as compared to Kashmir (37°N), which is why the difference between the duration of day and night is hardly felt at Kanyakumari but we feel the difference between the duration of the day and night in Kashmir.
