Which one of the states in India has the highest proportion of population below the poverty line?

Answer.
According to the Poverty Estimates 2011-12 report published by the Planning Commission, 21.9% of the country's population lives below the poverty line. The following are the five states/union territories whose largest share of the population is below the poverty line -
- Chhattisgarh (39.93%)
- Dadra and Nagar Haveli (39.31%)
- Jharkhand(36.96%)
- Arunachal Pradesh (34.67%)
- Bihar (33.74%)
We can say, Chhattisgarh (39.93%) state has the highest proportion of the population below the poverty line in India. So Chhattisgarh is the poorest state in India.
