Describe the composition of the export and import trade of India.

Answer.
Following are the major components of export items as per data for 2016-17:
- Manufacturing Goods (73.60%)
- Agriculture and Allied Activities(12.30%)
- Petroleum Products(11.70%)
- Ores and Minerals (1.9%)
Following are the major components of import items as per data for 2016-17:
- Fuel-coal and crude petroleum (26.70%)
- Capital Goods (13.6%)
- Food and Allied Products (5.6%)
- Fertilizers(1.30%)
- Paper board manufacturing and newsprint (0.9%)
Due to industrialization and improvement in the quality of life of the people, the export share of manufacturing goods is high and the imports of fuel-coal-petroleum and capital goods have a large share.
Imports have increased due to the increase in demand for fertilizers in India due to Green Revolution.
