(NCERT class 12 geography, India People and Economy, Chapter-12: Geographical Perspective on Selected Issues and Problems)
Answer.
Pollutants are unwanted substances that pollute the environment. So, pollutants are a medium of pollution.
There are four major components of environment-water, air, soil, and living creatures.
When pollutants pollute the water we term water pollution. Pollutants of water pollution are sands, micro-organisms (such as viruses, bacteria), chemicals, detergents, nitrites, etc.
When pollutants like Co2, Co, O3, dust, smoke, oxides of sulfur and nitrogen, etc. pollute the atmosphere, we termed as air pollution.
When pollutants like fertilizer, plastic, pesticides, salinity, alkalinity, etc. pollute the soil, we term soil pollution.
