(Class 12 geography, Fundamentals of Human GeographyChapter-2. The World Population Distribution, Density, and Growth )

Answer.

Like other resources Population is not equally distributed in the world. There are a number of areas like South Asia, South East Asia, Eastern China, Japan, and Europe which have high population densities in the world.

As per estimates, 60 percent of the world population lives in 10 countries. six(6) out of 10(ten) most populous countries are in Asia. China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Russia are the most populous countries in Asia.
Within the country also, the population is not equally distributed. For example, the Ganga-Brahmaputra valley is the thickly populated region of India and hilly areas of India are sparsely populated.

There are many reasons which make some regions densely populated.
The following factors make the region highly populated:
  • Availability of fertile soils.
  • The abundance of drinking water.
  • Plain areas.
  • Pleasant climate.
  • Urbanization of Industrialization.
  • Social and political stability.
  • The cultural and religious significance of the region.
