(Class 12 geography, Fundamentals of Human Geography, Chapter - 4. Human Development )
Answer.
The concept of human development is central to all forms of human development and was introduced by Mahbub-ul-Haq and Amartya Sen. Human development is a development that expands people's choices and improves their lives.
The following are the three basic areas of human development:
- access to resources
- Health
- education.
Access to resources is one of the three areas of human development that enhances people's choices by providing access to resources regardless of their social and economic status. If there is access to resources then poor people are also able to access knowledge and hospital and have their own businesses or job they want.
An unhealthy person can neither get a good education nor can he work properly. Therefore for human development, one must be healthy.
An uneducated child cannot choose to become a doctor or an engineer because a lack of education limits his options. If people are both poor and uneducated, then they have to work as laborers for their livelihood, so education is an area of human development.
Therefore, access to resources, health, and education are key areas of human development as they increase the choices of people and enable them to lead decent lives.
