Communication is the process of exchanging messages, ideas, etc. We can exchange messages apart from words (speaking), and we can also do gestures.
For example,
- When we talk to people through mobile, then mobile (network) is a means of communication.
Development of Communication:
- Earlier communication was carried out over long distances, by drumming, playing with hollow tree branches, signaling with smoke or fire, or conveying messages with the help of fast-moving animals such as horses, camels, dogs, birds, etc. Here, the means of communication were similar to the means of transport.
- Now, the development of science and technology has revolutionized the field of communication.
- Now the means of communication and transport are separate.
- People use different methods of communication to convey a message.
The mode of communication is classified into two types on the basis of scale and quality;
personal communication system
- Mass communication system
- Personal communication system;
Examples of personal communication systems are letters, telephone, telegram, fax, e-mail, internet, etc.
The Internet is the most effective and advanced personal communication system.
Networks through the Internet and email provide efficient access to information at a low cost. It enables us with the infrastructure of direct communication. For example, e-commerce and money transactions are done through the internet.
Mass communication system;
- Radio, television, newspaper, and satellite communication systems are examples of mass communication systems.
