Answer.
The Yamuna is a major left-bank tributary of the Ganges. It originates from the Yamunotri Glacier (Bandarpuch Peak) in the Uttarakhand Himalayas and joins the Ganges at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj.
The total length of river Yamuna is 1376 km which passes ( drained) through the following states -
- Uttarakhand
- Himachal Pradesh
- Delhi
- Haryana
- Uttar Pradesh.
However, the catchment areas and drained areas of the Yamuna River are spread over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
The major cities situated on the banks of river Yamuna are New Delhi, Noida, Mathura, Agra, and Prayagraj. Yamuna River is also known as the polluted river of India.
