Question.
Write a short note on the Manufacturing industries.
(Class 12 geography, Fundamentals of Human Geography, Chapter-6. Secondary Activities )
Answer.
Manufacturing literally means "making by hand" but now the literal meaning of manufacturing includes "goods made by machines".
In today's time manufacturing work is done by small and big manufacturing industries. We can define the manufacturing industry as follows -
Manufacturing industries are those industries that convert low-value raw materials into high-value finished goods and earn profit by selling them in the market.
Each manufacturing industry has a different geographical location and has a management system in which books of accounts and records are maintained.
Some examples of manufacturing industries are the cotton textile industry, iron and steel industry, sugar industry, automobile industry, petrochemical industry, etc.
Manufacturing industries are part of secondary activities that increase the value and utility of natural resources. For example, iron ore itself has little value and uses, but the iron and steel manufacturing industry increases its value by converting iron ore into iron. Iron has many uses such as making machines and tools.
