Alluvial soil is a depository soil because it is formed by deposits of material brought by rivers and their streams.
Alluvial soil covers 40 percent of the total land area of India.
The following regions of India are covered by alluvial soils;
- Indus-Ganga-Brahmaputra plains
- Eastern part of Rajasthan
- Gujarat plains
- The delta region of the river valley of the east coast.
