Staple foods are foods that are eaten frequently and included in large quantities in your diet. For example, rice and wheat are the staple foods of India in most parts of India. Rice and fish are the staple food of the coastal states and the northeastern states of India.
Paddy is a staple food crop of India as rice is the majority food in most parts of India.
India is the second largest producer of rice after China.
Paddy is a Kharif crop that requires a temperature of more than 25 degrees Celsius and an annual rainfall of more than 100 cm. However, paddy can also be grown in tropical and sub-tropical climates with the help of irrigation.
The areas where paddy crop is grown are the plains of north and north-east India, the coastal region, and the delta region of India.
