The names of the three states are Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh where black soil is found.

In Maharashtra, black soil is found in the plateau region. In Gujarat, black soil is spread over the interior of Gujarat and the Saurashtra region. In Madhya Pradesh, black soil is found mostly in the Malwa plateau in the southern and western parts of Madhya Pradesh.


Apart from Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, black soil is also found in south-eastern Rajasthan (Malwa plateau), Punjab, Chhattisgarh, interior parts of Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.


Black soil is ideal for growing cotton crops, hence it is also called black cotton soil. Cotton crop is mainly grown in black soil.
