Answer.

Transport means facilitating the movement of goods and people from one place to another. Some of the modes of transport are roads, railways, waterways, airways, pipelines, and ropeways.

Means of communication help in carrying messages, ideas, and technology from one place to another. Modern means of communication help us to convey messages without using means of transport. Internet, radio, television, and newspapers are some of the important means of communication.

The means of transport and communication are called the lifeline of a nation and the lifeline of the economy because of the following reasons:

The movement of people, goods, and technology in a nation and economy is completely dependent on the means of transport and communication.

Transport connects markets and production sources [industries].

Means of Communication help spread information and ideas over the physical space that helps the development of a nation and its economy.

Transport and communication mean to facilitate the production of industries. It is impossible to have all the raw materials in one place so transportation is required to run the industries. For example, to run the iron and steel industry, they need iron ore and limestone from Indian mines and coking coal from Australia or Africa; They also need a transportation system to sell steel in the Indian market as well as export it.

Means of communication facilitate trade and information that facilitates supply chain management, incident management, and financial transactions.

The development of any region is highly dependent on the production of goods and services and for this the means of transport and communication are prerequisites. Industry and service sectors attract areas that have transport and communication facilities. For example, the industry is usually attracted to ports and highways, not rural areas.

Means of transport and communication help to integrate and bring closer the economies and people of nations.

Means of transport and communication help in the development of all sectors of the economy such as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, defense, and service sector.

For the above reasons, the means of transport and communication are called the lifeline of a country and its economy.
