Question.
Can you name some of the states of India where Intensive Subsistence farming is practiced?
( Chapter - 4 Agriculture, Cass X NCERT Contemporary India -II )
Answer.
Intensive subsistence agriculture is practiced in areas with high population pressure on land (where there is a dense rural population). The right of succession to land leads to the division of land among successive generations and the size of land holdings is reduced. In the absence of other means of livelihood, people continue to cultivate small pieces of land and they use high amounts of chemical inputs and irrigation to achieve high production.
Although intensive subsistence farming is practiced throughout India, the main intensive (subsistence) subsistence agriculture is practiced in the following states of India.
West Bengal
Kerala
Tamil Nadu
Punjab
Haryana
Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Part of Uttar Pradesh
