Wheat is the second most cereal crop in India after rice. It is the main staple crop of north and northwestern India.
The wheat crop requires a cool growing season ( Rabi season) and requires bright sunshine at the time of ripening. It requires 50 to 75 cm of annual rainfall.
The major wheat-producing states of India are Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan.
