( Chapter - 4 Agriculture, Cass X NCERT Contemporary India -II )
Answer.
Agriculture in India is not very profitable and encouraging as most of the Indian farmers are stressed due to the uncertainty of agricultural output and are in debt. They do not want to see their son in this condition in the future.
Indian farmer does not want his son to become a farmer, due to the following reasons:
Due to the division of land in successive generations, the size of the land under cultivation is decreasing day by day. Now in most states, the size of the farms has become very small in which it is not possible to do farming by machine.
After the Green Revolution, the cost of farming increased as they needed to buy costly hybrid seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides every year. This reduces profits and also forces farmers to take loans from moneylenders.
Due to the liberalization and globalization of the agricultural sector, there is less profit in agricultural sales and there is also intense price competition from the international market.
Uncertainty in monsoon leads to crop failure and even if agriculture is done by irrigation, it costs a lot.
Due to the above reasons the future of farmers in India is bleak, this is the reason why Indian farmers do not want their sons to become a farmer.
