Primary activities are those activities that are related to the extraction and production of natural resources. Agriculture involves the growing of crops, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and livestock rearing, and both are relat ed to the production of natural resources, hence agriculture along with fishing, mining, and gathering comes under primary activity.
In India, agriculture is the primary activity because of the following reasons:
As per estimates, two-thirds of India's population is involved in agricultural activity.
In a large portion of India, about 43 percent of the land is plains areas and has very much fertile for agriculture.
Northern plains have an abundance of water resources both groundwater and surface water[ as perennial rivers] which support agriculture.
India has a very large population and labor-intensive agriculture provide employment opportunities.
