( Chapter - 4 Agriculture, Cass 8 NCERT Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

Different crops are grown in different regions because growing crops depends on the geographical conditions[ climate and soil], the demand for produce, labor, and the level of technology. Different crops require different types of climates and physical conditions to grow.

For example,

Wheat crops require moderate temperature and rainfall, so it grows well in the subtropical and temperate region in plains areas.

Jute crops require heavy rainfall, high temperature, and fertile alluvial soils which is why they grow well in lower Gangetic plains.

Millets crops require less fertile and sandy soils; that is why millets crops like ragi and Bajra grow in semi-arid regions of India.

Cotton crops require high temperatures, light rainfall, two hundred and ten frost-free days, bright sunshine, and moist soil; that is why it is grown in the black soil region of India.

Tea plantation crops require cool temperatures, a gentle slope, and high rainfall [ distributed throughout the year]; that is why it is grown in the hilly regions of West Bengal, Assam, and Kerala.

Coffee plantation requires a warm and wet climate, well-drained loamy soils, and hill slopes; that is why it is grown in hilly areas of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
