Give reasons why Petroleum is referred to as “black gold”.

Petroleum is referred to as "black gold" because of the following reasons:
- Petroleum is obtained from rock which is also called rock oil or crude oil and it is black in color.
- Petroleum is very valuable for the development of the country and for energy security.
- So, petroleum is referred to as "black gold" due the raw form of petroleum is thick black liquid; and it is precious in nature.
Petroleum is found between the layer of rocks and it is drilled from oil fields. Major petroleum-producing countries are Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Other petroleum-producing countries are the USA, Russia, Venezuela, and Algeria.
In India, major oil fields are located in Digboi ( Assam), Bombay high ( Mumbai), and the deltaic regions of Krishna and Godavari.
