Name of the two headstreams of the Ganga is Bhagirathi and Alaknanda.
The origin of the Bhagirathi stream is the Gangotri glacier (Kharakh glacier) which is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand whereas the origin of the Alaknanda stream is the Satopnath Glacier (Badrinath glacier) which is situated in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand.
Bhagirathi and Alaknanda streams meet in Haridwar, the meeting point is called Devprayag.
From Haridwar, Uttrakhand, the Ganga river enters in northern plains from the Himalayan mountain.
