Question.
Why do the houses in Rajasthan have thick walls and flat roofs?
( Chapter - 4 Climate, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )
Answer.
As we know that Rajasthan has adverse climatic conditions for human habitation, which is why the population density here is very low.
The day temperature in Rajasthan reaches almost 50 degrees centigrade in summer, while the night temperature drops to 15 degrees centigrade. Western Rajasthan receives very little rainfall; It receives less than 15 cm annual rainfall.
In such adverse climatic conditions, the walls of the houses of the people in Rajasthan are thick and the roof is flat.
The houses in Rajasthan have thick walls and flat roofs because-
During the day, the thick walls prevent heat from the atmosphere from entering the house; And at night, they also keep the house warm by preventing cold air from entering.
Flat roofs help in collecting rainwater for rainwater harvesting and help in meeting the water needs of the people.
