Question.
What is virgin vegetation?
( Chapter - 5 Natural Vegetation and Wildlife, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )
Answer.
Vegetation that grows naturally without human help and remains unaffected by humans for a long period of time, this type of vegetation is known as virgin vegetation.
Examples of virgin vegetation are mangrove forests.
In India, virgin vegetation is found in the Himalayas, hilly regions, deserts, and delta regions.
There is a narrow difference between virgin vegetation and natural vegetation. All virgin vegetation is natural vegetation but all natural vegetation is not virgin vegetation. Natural trees which have never been cut down by humans or re-planted with another tree are called virgin vegetation.
