( Chapter - 3 Our Changing Earth, Class 7 NCERT, Our Environment( Geography) )
Answer.
When a plate moves or breaks, the earth vibrates. The vibration of the earth is called an earthquake. These vibrations are actually destructive energy that travels in the form of waves and causes damage to the building. If the building is not earthquake resistant then the building collapses.
Buildings start shaking due to earthquakes and the building whose foundation is weak and steel has not been used or less steel has been used in making the building, those buildings collapse.
Buildings with deep foundations and good-quality beams often do not collapse in low-intensity earthquakes.
