Question.
What is air pressure?
( Chapter - 4 Air, Class 7 NCERT, Our Environment( Geography) )
Answer.
The pressure exerted by the weight of air on the Earth's surface is called air pressure. The air pressure is highest at sea level and lowest at Mount Everest.
Air pressure decreases rapidly with an increase in altitude. The horizontal distribution of air pressure is affected by the temperature of the air at a given location. If the atmospheric temperature is high, the atmospheric pressure in that area will be low. In the area of low air pressure, cloudy and humid atmospheric conditions exist.
The wind exerts a force on us with high air pressure but we do not even realize it because the air presses on us from all directions and our bodies exert the same amount of pressure outwards.
