( Chapter - 2 Inside Our Earth, Class 7 NCERT, Our Environment( Geography) )
Answer.
Any natural mass of mineral matter that forms the earth's crust is called a rock. So, we can also say, rocks are the basic building blocks of the earth's crust.
Rocks can be of different colors, sizes, and textures. Basically, there are three major types of rocks namely igneous rock, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock.
Igneous rocks are also known as primary rocks as they are formed directly from molten magma after cooling.
Sedimentary rocks are formed from rock sediments after compression and hardening.
Under great heat and pressure, igneous and sedimentary rocks get to change into metamorphic rock.
