Question.
Why do the plates move?
( Chapter - 3 Our Changing Earth, Class 7 NCERT, Our Environment( Geography) )
Answer.
The lithosphere is the most solid layer of the Earth, which includes the crust and the upper mantle (solid part). The lithosphere is broken into several plates, which are commonly known as plates or lithosphere plates. These plates move very slowly (a few millimeters per year).
The movement of molten magma inside the Earth causes the plates to move. The molten magma moves in a circular motion inside the earth. The circular movement of molten magma inside the earth is called a convection current. Due to the uneven presence of radioactive elements inside the earth, there is a difference in temperature, due to which the magma moves circularly, which causes the movement of the lithosphere plate.
