(UPPSC GS paper 4 2021)
Answer.
Tolerance and compassion are two essential values in civil servants for ethical administration and to create a just and fair society.
There are many ways to foster tolerance and compassion in civil servants, some of which are as follows:
Training and Education: Civil servants need training and education to understand the diversity of India's society and culture. Knowing different perspectives of culture and social work can nurture tolerance and compassion in civil servants.
Encourage dialogue and feedback: Open dialogue between civil servants and with various stakeholders such as social workers, employees, religious people, and vulnerable sections of society should be encouraged. This exposes the public servants to the many concerns and needs of society which inculcates tolerance and compassion in the public servants.
Recognize and reward: To recognize and reward public servants who apply the values of tolerance and compassion in their work. This will also inspire others to include tolerance and compassion in their actions.
In the above way, tolerance and compassion can be fostered in civil servants. This helps in creating an inclusive, supportive, and enjoyable work environment and governance system.
