Answer.
Both "Code of Ethics" and "Code of Conduct" are collections of ideals and moral values that govern the behavior of individuals or the functioning of an organization. However, there are some major differences between the two, some are as follows-
A code of ethics is a collection of moral values for the conduct of a common man, while a code of conduct is a collection of instructions for culture or community, or organization.
A code of ethics is a set of general moral principles and values that provide instructions for a person's physical, mental, and spiritual conduct, while a code of conduct is a set of specific rules and guidelines that govern the behavior of individuals or organizations.
The code of ethics takes into account the religion, culture, and ideals of the society whereas the code of conduct is a set of guidelines that can be expected, prohibited, or encouraged to follow keeping in mind the smooth running of the community or organization goes. For example, at the time of elections, the Election Commission enforces the code of conduct for public servants to conduct the elections in a transparent manner.
Codes of ethics are the general values that are expected to be followed while making decisions while a code of conduct is the guidelines that the individuals living in the organization have to follow.
Codes of ethics are generally more flexible than codes of ethics and have a wide range of interpretations while code of conduct are generally more rigid than codes of ethics where it provides clear rules and guidelines.
In conclusion, we can say that while a code of ethics and a code of conduct are a collection of moral values to promote ethical behavior in individuals or organizations, they differ in scope, flexibility, and objectives.
