Answer.
Accountability, transparency, and people participation are three key tools for good governance. “ Right to Information Act 2005” was enacted by the Indian parliament for promoting transparency and accountability, and people's participation in governance in India.
The following are the roles of the “right to information” for transparency in governance-
The Act empowers citizens to obtain information about the functioning of government bodies and decisions taken by them, and the utilization of public funds. It helps in exposing corruption and irregularities in government functions, and they help in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
The act enables citizens to monitor the functioning of public authorities, and it encouraged government officials to be more transparent and accountable in their functioning.
The act also directs the government and government institutions to make available information as much as possible to the public. This increases the transparency in the functioning of the government.
The act also helps to expose the irregularities in decision-making that help in exposing corruption, and further increase the efficiency in the functionality of government institutions.
In conclusion, we can say the RTI act has played a significant role in promoting transparency and accountability in governance in India as it is exposing corruption and irregularities; it also empowerment of citizens, and encouraged government officials to be more transparent and accountable in their actions.
