It is true that poverty leads to corruption, but poverty is not the only cause of corruption. There is various cause that leads to corruption, which is why affluent and powerful people indulge in corruption in a big way. Corruption can be caused in many ways, the following are the main causes of corruption among people-
Greed and doubtful integrity; The person who adheres to the high standard of ethical values, generally does not indulge in corruption. People who are driven by their desire for money and power may engage in corrupt practices to achieve their goals. For example, businessmen are often rich and powerful people, however, they bribe government officials for getting tender.
Weak Institutions; When there is a weak judiciary in the country or the judiciary itself is involved in corruption, in this situation, people often do corrupt practices.
Lack of accountability; if the government official or authority lacks accountability for their decision, corrupt practices in society often arise.
Political instability; When there is political instability in the country, affluent and powerful people often indulge in corruption in a big way. Corruption in most African countries happens due to political instability in the country.
In conclusion, we can say corruption is not only caused by poverty but also by many things like greed, unethical behaviors, weak institution, lack of accountability, and political instability.
