Skill development helps individuals to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to become employable and contribute to the growth of economic sectors[ agriculture, manufacturing, and service] and overall economic development. Skill development is vital for the Make in India program and vital for the growth of the manufacturing sector in India.
The role of skill development in a country’s economic development is-
- It provides relevant and quality training to individuals.
- It Increases employability.
- It promotes entrepreneurship.
- It strengthens the "Make in India" initiative.
The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission 2022 (UKSDM) was initially launched in 2015 by the government of Uttar Pradesh. It aims to provide training and certification to more than 45 lakh individuals in the state by 2022 to the age group between 14 to 35.
The followings are the objectives and main features of the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, 2022;
Skill development for youth, and inclusiveness; The scheme focuses especially on youth from economically weaker sections, women, and minorities. 30 % target women and 20 % target minorities to provide necessary skills under this scheme. It aims to provide training to all sectors such as retail, healthcare, and construction.
Industry partnership; The scheme is based on the PPP model. Skill development happens through collaboration with various industries that meet industry requirements. It aims to reduce the gap between industry demand and the availability of skilled labor.
Improving training infrastructure; This scheme also aims to build training infrastructure across the state including skill development centers and e-learning platforms.
Entrepreneurship development; It also focuses on entrepreneurship by providing training and support to individuals who want to start their own businesses.
