The Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP) 2020 is being jointly implemented by the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the government of India and the Department of Science and Technology.
It is a comprehensive policy framework and it aims to position India as a global leader in Science and Technology and leverage innovation for sustainable and inclusive development.
Here are some important features of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP) 2020:
Vision; The aim of the policy is to make India a global knowledge superpower ( Vishva Guru) driven by science, technology, and innovation. It aims to create an ecosystem that nurtures and promotes scientific research, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship.
Holistic and decentralized approach; It aims to take a holistic approach by integrating various stakeholders, including the public, government, society, academia, industry, and civil society. It promotes a decentralized, bottom-up, and inclusive design process that aims to restrategize priorities. Sectoral focus, and method of research and technology development for larger socio-economic welfare.
Four Pillars; The policy is based on four major pillars namely Quality Research, Education and Innovation, promoting technology development, building strong Science Technology and Innovation Infrastructure, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation Promotion.
Ethical and Inclusive; The Policy emphasizes the need for ethical consideration, social inclusion, and responsible research and innovation. It promotes gender equality and ensures the ethical use of science and technology for social benefits.
Open Science and Open Data; The policy aims to improve transparency, collaboration, and accessibility of scientific knowledge. It aims to reduce the gap between research and market application. It encourages the creation of intellectual property, technology licensing, and industry-academia partnerships for effective technology transfers.
