Question.
Why is the Northern Hemisphere called the Land Hemisphere?
( Chapter 5: Major Domains of the Earth, Class 6- The Earth: Our Habitat ( GEOGRAPHY), SOCIAL SCIENCE)
Answer.
The Northern Hemisphere is often referred to as the "Land Hemisphere" because it contains a significantly larger landmass compared to the Southern Hemisphere. Asia, Europe, and North America continents are entirely located in the Northern Hemisphere. Part of South America and part of Africa also lie in the northern hemisphere. The presence of these large landmasses, along with many other smaller continents and landmasses ( like Greenland), contributes to a higher percentage of the Earth's land surface being located in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Southern Hemisphere is sometimes referred to as the "Water Hemisphere" because it contains a higher percentage of the Earth's oceans and a smaller percentage of its land masses. The Southern Hemisphere has relatively fewer large landmasses, with Antarctica and Australia being the most prominent.
Because of the above reasons, the northern hemisphere is called the land hemisphere.
