Answer.
"Settlement" is a place where people or communities live. Human settlement can be permanent or temporary.
In a forest, when people live in tents for a few days, such a settlement is called a temporary settlement.
Villages, towns, cities, and megacities are prominent among the examples of permanent settlements.
Historically, the early human settlement in India was settled on the bank of the Indus River and its tributaries. Later, this settlement moved to the Ganges and its tributaries. Now, institutions like NASA and ISRO are trying to create the first settlement on the moon and Mars.
Settlement can vary in size and nature, such as the size of the settlement can range from small villages to big cities [Delhi or Mumbai].
The settlements have the presence of homes, infrastructure, and essential facilities required for human habitation.
These places can develop in different places, such as rural areas, along the beaches, near water sources, or in urban areas.
Settlements play an important role in human society as a center of residence, economic activity, and social interaction.
