About Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor:
Setting up for two Defense Industrial Corridors in India has been approved: Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The establishment of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor was announced at the Uttar Pradesh Investors Summit in February 2018.
Key features of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor:
Geographical Spread:
The Defense corridor has six nodal districts in Uttar Pradesh: Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur, and Lucknow.
Nodal Agency:
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is the nodal agency to facilitate the implementation of this project.
Single Windows Approval:
Nivesh Mitra portal has been developed to single windows approval for setting up Defense and Aerospace manufacturing units in the defense corridor.
There will be uninterrupted water and electricity supply in the defense corridor.
Integrated Industrial Infrastructure:
The defense corridor aims to create integrated defense infrastructure like Defense Parks, testing facilities, training institutes, and research and development centers.
It promotes the establishment of Private Defense Parks with plug-and-play facilities.
Cheap land in the Budelkhand region will facilitate these infrastructures, about 3000 hectares of land have been notified and purchased for this project.
Golden Quadrilateral and Agra Lucknow expressways have fast road connectivity and Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal expressways are proposed connectivity in the defense corridor.
Public-Private Partnership:
The defense corridor encourages collaboration between the Public Sector Undertaking ( PSU), private sector companies, and foreign investors to promote investment. It will promote innovation and technology transfer.
Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor aims to become the industrial hub in India, which will contribute to economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement in the region.
