Answer.
Unwanted plastic materials are plastic waste. It includes bottles, bags, containers, paint, toys, etc which are made of plastic.
As per United Nations Environment Programme ( HQ, Nairobi, Kenya), plastic waste contributes about 85 % of marine pollution, which makes plastic disastrous for marine ecosystems. Most of the marine plastic waste comes from rivers.
Brief rules related to the Management of Plastic Waste in Uttar Pradesh:

- Ban on carry bags and cutlery items from 2018.
- Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rule 2022
- Ban of single-use plastic from August 2022.
The following are the guidelines of Plastic Waste Management 2016 by Uttar Pradesh's government:
The plastic sheets used for packaging and are less than 50 microns in thickness have been banned. It is exempted for medicine packaging.
Plastic used in Gutkha, Pan Masala, and Tobacco packaging, has been banned.
All kinds of plastic ( in all thicknesses) that are used for carrying bags are banned.
Compostable and Biodegradable carry bags are allowed. However, it is allowed only after being certified by the Central Pollution Control Board.
The Urban Local Body is responsible for the segregation, collection, storage, transportation, processing, and disposal of plastic waste.
The use of plastic in government departments of Uttar Pradesh has been banned.
