Climate Change: 

Change in temperature, precipitation, and weather pattern is known as Climate Change.

At present, there has been a rise in 0.08-degree temperature every 10 years since industrialization.


Tropical Countries:

The country that lies between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn are known as tropical countries.


Negative consequences of climate change on food security:

  • Heat stress on crops ( productivity loss)
  • Crop failure ( monsoon gap or change in precipitation pattern)
  • Loss of soil quality( changes due to changes in temperature and precipitation)
  • Loss of crops due to cyclone, flash flood, and cloud burst
  • Increase in Pests & Diseases ( due to temperature rises)
  • Shift in growing pattern ( disruption in the traditional growing season)
  • Increase in food price
  • Disruption in food transportation/ storage
  • Biodiversity loss ( loss of honey bee, flower species), etc


Positive Consequences of climate change on food security:

  • Enable rice cultivation in elevated regions ( cooler regions)
  • Warmer winters increase rice and tomato  productivity
