Raising marine plants and animals in a controlled environment of ocean water is known as ocean ranching. It has been practiced in the coastal areas of the Phillippines, Indonesia, Australia, etc.
Aqua-cowboys:
People involved in Ocean ranching activities are known as Aqua-cowboys.
Activities involved in Ocean Ranching:
constructing enclosed areas of the ocean for ocean farming.
Release of egg/ captive breed to enclosed areas of Sea
Monitoring and caring
Harvesting
Why do we need Ocean Ranching:
Per capita, land availability is decreasing day by day with the growing population.
It is key for sustainable harvesting and food security.
It is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Goal-14 ( life below Water).
