Uttar Pradesh Health Policy 2018 Highlights:
As per the Health Index launched by Niti Aayog, the performance of Uttar Pradesh in health parameters is worst. Kerala remains in the top position.
The Uttar Pradesh Health Policy 2018 comes after the National Health Policy 2017.
The state is facing a twin burden of communicable diseases and malnutrition.
It focuses on the global principles of the right to health.
The following are the key focus areas of this policy:
Increase in Public spending:
The policy suggested public spending on health should be a minimum of 2.5 % of state GDP by 2025 to 2030.
Focus on disease prevention and Primary Health Care:
It suggested the allocation of additional funds to prevent diseases and strengthen Primary Health Care.
Use of IT Services in Health Sectors:
It focuses on the computerization of hospitals, electronic health records, telemedicine, and management.
Electronic medical records are crucial to track and monitor diseases.
Regulate the Quality of Drugs, Supplies, and Equipment:
It proposed several layers of quality checks before a drug is supplied to the patients.
Focus on Health Workforce Architecture:
The policy focuses on increasing the number of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.
Integration of Traditional Medicine:
It recognizes the importance of traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH), the policy promotes their integration into the mainstream healthcare system to provide holistic care options.
Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH university, Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University of Gorakhpur is working on this field.
